Dedicated to Excellence

EMS Academy

Owen worked with an EMS agency to develop, build, and implement an EMS training academy from the ground up. The EMS agency was facing recruitment and retention challenges due to a lack of effective training programs and lack of career opportunities. In their existing two-week training program, the agency had a test-out process, which resulted in only 27% of employees passing the first test, leaving 73% to remain in the training process for an additional 60-75 days before being released to work independently. The agency was frustrated with the inefficiency and ineffectiveness of their program and allowed Owen to work with them in developing a new process.

Working closely with the EMS agency Owen designed and implemented a comprehensive training program that covered all aspects of EMS, including patient care, communication, documentation, and critical thinking. We also provided guidance on how to recruit, select, and retain the best candidates for the academy. Owen’s approach focused on developing a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Owen continues to provide ongoing support and coaching to ensure that the academy remains effective and relevant over time. Owen helped the agency to create a supportive and challenging environment where employees could grow and develop their skills.

As a result of our collaboration, the EMS agency saw significant improvements. After implementing our tailored training program, the pass rates for the academy increased from 27% to over 90%. Retention improved, and so did the overall morale of the organization. They have been able to select and retain the best candidates for their agency and provide them with comprehensive training that is continually improving. The agency has built a culture of excellence and continuous improvement that is fostered by its employees.

The academy model developed through this process is now growing into a comprehensive grant-funded apprenticeship and career development program. Almost entirely eliminating its staffing shortages, improving the quality of care being provided, and increasing the promotional and career opportunities for its staff and community.

This agency is rapidly taking over as the premier service provider in their community.
